TRUST for PUBLIC LAND

TRUST for PUBLIC LAND’s Mission Statement

Trust for Public Land (TPL) is a national nonprofit that works to connect everyone to the benefits and joys of the outdoors. As a leader in equitable access to the outdoors, TPL works with communities to create parks and protect public land where they are needed most.

Area of Expertise

“The Trust for Public Land helps to raise funding for conservation; from protecting and restoring natural spaces; collaborating with communities to plan, design, and create parks, playgrounds, gardens, and trails; we work with communities to ensure that development happens for them, and not to them.

We work with landowners, partner groups, and public agencies to acquire, create access to, and secure public ownership and stewardship of the lands and waters that enhance our nation’s quality of life and make our communities great places to live, work, and play.

We work in partnership with youth and community members, equitable development entities, schools, landscape architects, designers, and builders to create parks that reflect and serve local communities and connect people to nature and to each other.

We work with government agencies and decision-makers to pinpoint the greatest opportunities to bring nature to the communities that need it most, using GIS mapping, spatial analyses, and insights derived from applied expertise.

We work with elected officials, thought leaders, and communities to mobilize support for critical bills and policies to advance parks and public lands for people.

We work with cities, states, counties, and communities to pass ballot measures and create and unlock public funding for parks and open space.

Since 1972, TPL has protected more than 3 million acres of public land, created more than 5,000 parks, trails, schoolyards, and iconic outdoor places, raised $84 billion in public funding for parks and public lands, and connected more than 9 million people to the outdoors.
